Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes. Ratcliffe & Sons is Gas Safe registered — the official gas registration body for the UK. Our registration number is 6019962, which you can check for free on the Gas Safe Register website. Every engineer carries an ID card, and only registered engineers are legally allowed to work on gas appliances.
How can I check a gas engineer is genuine before they start?
Always ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card, and check the registration number on the official Gas Safe Register (gassaferegister.co.uk) or by calling them. Ours is 6019962. A legitimate engineer will be happy for you to check — it only takes a minute and it's the best way to stay safe.
My kitchen fitter is installing a new hob — can they connect the gas?
No — kitchen fitters usually can't legally connect a gas hob or cooker unless they're Gas Safe registered. The gas connection must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We can fit and test your gas hob or cooker safely, often around your kitchen installation.
Should I repair my boiler or replace it?
It depends on the age, the fault and the cost. We'll always give you an honest view — if a repair makes sense, we'll say so, and we won't push a new boiler you don't need. When a boiler is old and breaking down repeatedly, a new efficient one often works out cheaper over time.
How much is a landlord gas safety certificate (CP12)?
Our landlord gas safety check is £60 for up to two appliances, with the CP12 certificate issued after the visit. A gas fire is an additional £50. Get in touch for portfolios or properties with more appliances.
How often does a rental property need a gas safety check?
By law, landlords must have a gas safety check carried out on every gas appliance and flue every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and provide tenants with a copy of the record.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in the Coppull and Chorley area and cover much of the North West, including Bolton, Leyland, Warrington, St Helens and Liverpool. If you're nearby but not listed, get in touch — we may still be able to help.
Do you help manage renewals for landlords?
Yes. We use specialist compliance software to track when each property's check is due, so renewals don't slip through the cracks. You get one contact for every property and organised digital records.
